Is it a good or bad idea to buy gold or silver right now? and why?

If you’re asking if you should buy tangible gold and silver, it’s only a good idea if you believe the US Dollar is going to crash. If you believe this, buy 50% gold and 50% silver with your money. Also buy gold and silver prior to, I believe 1930’s as everything after that can be confiscated by the US government.
If you’re asking whether you should invest in the stock market in gold, be it in Gold’s price (like gold etf GLD) or in mining stocks. I’d say right now might not be a bad time, especially for mining stocks. But buy a mining stocks that are big, with little debt, free cash flow and lots of cash. Miners need lots of credit to keep operations going and we are in a credit restrictive economy. Companies like Barrick, and Yamana are good starts.
Gold overall should do well as we may experience hyper inflation from all the money pumped into the system from the government. Inflation and currency devaluation will be the next crisis we have, which should make gold skyrocket.
